Highly praised by Gramophone as an artist with “both nerve and unusual pianistic assurance”, the OPUS KLASSIK nominated Young Steinway Artist Yi Lin Jiang repeatedly caught the international music world’s attention with the release of his ANCLEF album “Apothéose infernale”: recorded by his long-time sound engineer and nine-time GRAMMY Award winner Peter Laenger, the pianist was rewarded again with a nomination for the prestigious German Record Critics' Award. MusicWeb International appreciated the world premiere recording of Daphnis et Chloé’s entire original 1910/11 piano reduction without any overlapping recording segments as "a stand-alone pianistic tour de force”; Pizzicato acknowledged “the passion of the music in an unexpectedly powerful development of sound”, the BBC Music Magazine celebrated La Valse as “a triumph with a rollicking momentum”, and the Limelight Magazine proclaimed the complete recording “a fine opening salvo” in Maurice Ravel’s 150th anniversary.
Designated by FONO FORUM as “a quite ambitious and equally headstrong label founding”, Yi Lin Jiang established his own record label ANCLEF [LC 96481] in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and received wide recognition by MusicWeb International for its “beautiful production” and “sublime recording quality”. Generously supported by the German Music Council (Deutscher Musikrat) as part of “NEUSTART KULTUR”, he successfully released the first EP “Philia” together with fellow Italian pianist and duo partner Jacopo Giovannini, as well as the related solo album “IV·XXI” which received three nominations for the OPUS KLASSIK 2022. Critically acclaimed for its cultural sustainability, the German Orchestra Foundation (Deutsche Orchester-Stiftung) granted ANCLEF the limited vinyl edition “In Memoriam”. Due to an additional support by the GVL, the thriving continuation of his “NEUSTART KULTUR” achievements culminated in the solo album “Fête du soleil” which was selected as rbbKultur’s Album of the Week, and received four nominations for the OPUS KLASSIK 2023 including soloist, young artist, soloist recording, and videoclip of the year. Supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM), the four-hands duo album “H2O” which was selected as Radio opus 100,7’s Album of the Week, concluded his accomplishing “NEUSTART KULTUR” journey. Preceded by the digital single “Bacchanale“, the digital EP “La Valse“, and the digital album “Fresque chorégraphique“, the highly anticipated solo album “Apothéose infernale” (including the complete ballet’s original 1910/11 piano reduction of Daphnis et Chloé as a world premiere recording without any overlapping recording segments) was the internationally first released Ravel disc in 2025. After celebrating the Basque’s exact 150th birthday with the digital EP “Zorionak, Maurice!”, Jiang will conclude the Ravel anniversary on the composer’s death day with one more “Apothéose” by releasing a live version of Ma mère l’Oye’s “Le jardin féerique” in a slightly darker, brooding and nostalgic rendition, both reflecting on his entire life while continuing to honour his precious legacy with dedication, responsibility, and gratitude. Further ANCLEF releases are in production.
Concert invitations led Yi Lin Jiang to various renowned concert halls including the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, all important venues in Munich (Prinzregententheater, Gasteig, Hercules Hall and Cuvilliés Theatre of the Munich Residence), the historical Willa Atma Zakopane, and London’s St Martin-in-the-Fields where his solo debut was celebrated with standing ovations after an extraordinary performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonata op. 111. He is a welcomed guest at different music festivals including the Munich Opera Festival, the Music Festival of the NDR Radio Philharmonic, the Heidelberger Klavierwoche, the Euregio Musikfestival, the Salzburg Biennale, and the Pianists of the World Series. Collaborations with various orchestras include the Südwestfalen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Swabian Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra, the ATTACCA-Orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera, and the Young Munich Philharmonic Orchestra under notable conductors as Allan Bergius, Massimiliano Caldi, Carlos Domínguez-Nieto, Hans Drewanz, Raphael von Hoensbroech, and Alexandra Helldorff. Recent post-pandemic performances include Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto, the Piano Trios of Rebecca Clarke and Maurice Ravel, as Florence Price’s Piano Concerto in one movement for the 20th anniversary celebration of Wolfgang Danzmayr’s OrchesterProjekt. Jiang’s basic knowledge in six languages and its intertwining cultural mentalities are reflected in his wide-ranging, carefully curated repertoire both on stage and in the recording studio. BR-KLASSIK defined him as “an exquisite pianist with his own record label”. Diapason attested “a gesture carried with proudness” to his playing, AllMusic applauded “his virtuosity as well as his sensitivity to moods”, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung spoke about “his tremendous musicality and enthralling depth of expression”.
Born on September 13th 1988 in Munich, the multi-ethnic pianist Yi Lin Jiang received his first piano lessons with Barbara Strauß (1949–2023) at the age of six. Already one year later, he already won his first piano competition. He made his orchestra debut at the age of ten and was rewarded the Youth Culture Prize of Kaufbeuren for his successful music activities. The Mozarteum alumnus studied in renowned piano classes as he belonged both to the last generation of the late German pedagogue Karl-Heinz Kämmerling (1930–2012) as well as to the first generation of the Polish pianist Ewa Kupiec. Further influences by Gerrit Glaner, Evgeny Kissin, Francisco Araiza, Łukasz Borowicz, Toshio Hosokawa, Jörg Widmann, Julius Berger, Vassilia Efstathiadou, and Peter Laenger essentially shaped his versatile ongoing career as a concert pianist, artistic director, university docent, music producer, recording artist, and founder of his own label ANCLEF.
